The Impact of Digital Iconic Realism on Anonymous Interactants' Emotionally Engaged Mobile-Phone Communication

Sin-Hwa's project is designed to explore the effect of the combination of behavioral and visual
fidelity of avatars on users’ social presence in synchronous and emotionally engaged mobile phone
communication. The study specifically focuses on ways to secure mobile phone users’ anonymity while
preserving their most important nonverbal affective behaviors. The research measures social presence
in several dimensions, and investigates the impact of combinations of behavioral and iconic realism
of avatars on the measures.

On Wednesday October 4th, 2006 The SBRL and EMPAC, in association with the Dean of
Humanities and Social Sciences, are proud to announce an open house event at the Winslow Building.
Please join us from 4pm to 5:30pm for food, presentations, and hands on activities provided by
EMPAC and the researchers at the SBRL. A partial list of activities include Virtual Reality, Motion Capture,
Games demo, and TIC data-harvesting presentation. Admission is free to all.
SBRL Has Moved!

On July 21 the SBRL began moving and relocating all of its facilities
to the Winslow Building in accordance with Institute planning. The Winslow building
is the only 'on-campus' facility on the west side of 8th St. A building opening event is being
planned for sometime in the first half of the fall semester. In the meantime, projects
to re-install audio-visual equipment and to return the facility to an opreational state
are currently underway. Any inquiries concerning the visitation and/or use of the SBRL
